Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy built around your labs, your symptoms, your schedule.

Bioidentical and traditional HRT for menopause, andropause, and hormone imbalances in Greater Philadelphia. Testing first, then a treatment plan written for one patient.

Hormone balance consultation

Why your hormones deserve individual attention

Symptoms tell half the story. Labs tell the other half.

Hot flashes, night sweats, weight that won't move, energy that never returns, libido gone, sleep broken. Those symptoms point to hormones, but they don't tell us which ones are off or by how much. A proper hormone replacement plan starts with measurement, not assumption.

At Aether Medicine, Dr. Christian orders a comprehensive hormone panel before any prescription is written. Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, DHEA, cortisol. He reads the results himself, against your symptoms and health history, and builds a treatment plan around what your body actually needs.

The form of therapy matters, too. Pellets work for someone who wants steady levels and no daily routine. Creams give control and flexibility. Patches are simple and discreet. Injections offer precision. We walk through each option, what the dosing looks like, how it fits your schedule, and what to expect as your body adjusts.

Bioidentical and traditional HRT options

The forms we offer and how we help you choose.

Hormone replacement is not one protocol. The delivery method, the molecule, the dosing schedule all change how treatment feels and how well it works for your life.

Bioidentical hormones
Estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone compounded to match the molecular structure your body produces. Available as pellets, creams, troches, and injections. We use bioidentical hormones when the patient prefers them or when dosing precision requires it.
Traditional HRT
Standard estrogen and progesterone therapies, often covered by insurance. Patches, pills, and creams with decades of safety data behind them. For many patients, traditional HRT is the most straightforward path to symptom relief.
Pellets
Inserted under the skin during an in-office procedure, pellets release hormones steadily. No daily routine, no fluctuations. Popular with patients who want stable levels and minimal maintenance.
Creams, patches, and injections
Topical creams give you control over dosing and timing. Patches are simple and discreet. Injections offer precision. We walk through the trade-offs at your first visit.

What to expect from your first visit

The lab work, the consultation, and the path from testing to treatment.

Your first appointment at our practice is a conversation, not a transaction. Dr. Christian sits down with you for a full consultation: how long the symptoms have been present, what has changed, what you have tried, what other health conditions are in play, what medications you take, and what you want from treatment.

After the history and exam, he orders the hormone panel. Blood is drawn either at the office or at a lab near you. The panel typically includes estradiol, progesterone, total and free testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin, thyroid function, DHEA-S, cortisol, and metabolic markers. If your symptoms suggest other issues, additional tests are added.

When your results are in, Dr. Christian reviews them and schedules a follow-up visit to walk through the findings with you. He explains what each number means, where you fall relative to optimal ranges, and which hormones are driving your symptoms. Then he writes the treatment plan: the form, the dose, the schedule, and what to watch for as your body responds.

Every patient responds differently. We track how you feel alongside your lab results and adjust the plan as your body responds.

Video visits for Pennsylvania patients

Your first hormone consultation can be by video.

If you are in Pennsylvania at the time of the visit, your initial hormone consultation can be conducted by video. Dr. Christian is licensed in Pennsylvania only. Labs are drawn at a facility near you, and follow-up visits can also be by video as long as you remain in-state during the appointment.

Monitoring your progress

How often we retest, adjust dosing, and check in as your body responds.

Hormone replacement is not a one-time prescription. Your body's response determines the next step, and that response is measured, not guessed.

1

A first retest

Once hormone levels have had time to settle, we check blood levels, ask how you feel, and adjust the dose if needed.

2

Regular follow-up labs

Once your levels are dialed in and symptoms are stable, we keep retesting on a regular schedule to confirm everything is holding where it should.

3

Adjustments when your body changes

Weight loss, stress, illness, and aging all shift hormone needs. When symptoms return or labs drift, we adjust the protocol and retest.

Common questions

What patients ask about hormone replacement therapy.

What is the difference between bioidentical and traditional hormone therapy?
Bioidentical hormones are compounded to match the molecular structure your body produces. Traditional HRT uses standard formulations with decades of safety data and is often covered by insurance. Both work. The choice depends on your preferences, insurance, and how precisely we need to dose.
Do I need to stay on HRT forever?
Not necessarily. Some patients use HRT to get through menopause or andropause and then taper off. Others stay on it long-term because they feel better and the benefits outweigh the risks. We discuss this at your first visit and revisit it as your goals change.
Is hormone replacement safe if I have a family history of breast cancer or heart disease?
It depends on your specific history and risk factors. Dr. Christian reviews your family history, personal health, and current symptoms before recommending HRT. In some cases, the answer is no. In others, a carefully monitored protocol is safe and beneficial. The conversation happens before any prescription is written.
Will my insurance cover hormone replacement therapy?
Some traditional HRT medications are covered by insurance. Bioidentical compounded hormones typically are not. Lab work may be covered depending on your plan. The practice is cash-based, but we provide documentation you can submit for reimbursement. Costs are discussed before any treatment starts.
